For nearly two decades, reverse glass painting has been my creative journey and my meditation. What began as a fascination with glass as a canvas gradually became a lifelong passion for bringing Indian mythology, gods, goddesses, and timeless cultural stories to life through acrylics on glass.

Unlike painting on canvas, reverse glass painting is created from the frontmost details to the background, with every layer painted in reverse order. This centuries-old art form is believed to have travelled to India through European trade during the 18th century and later flourished in regions such as Thanjavur, Mysore, and parts of Kerala, where artists adapted it to depict Hindu deities and royal subjects.

Glass is an incredibly honest medium. Every brushstroke, every line, and every tiny imperfection remains permanently visible—there is no opportunity to paint over mistakes as one might on canvas. Yet it is precisely this uncompromising nature that makes reverse glass painting so captivating. When viewed through the glass, the colours gain remarkable depth, the details appear luminous, and the finished artwork possesses a richness that is difficult to recreate on any other surface.

My work draws inspiration from India’s artistic heritage, particularly its mythology, temple traditions, and classical folk art. Whether portraying the serenity of Krishna, the wisdom of Saraswati, the balance of Ardhanareeshwara, or the grace of a peacock, each painting is created entirely by hand, one layer at a time, with patience and precision.

Every piece is unique. My hope is that each artwork carries not only beauty and craftsmanship but also a sense of peace, devotion, and timeless tradition into the homes of those who collect it.
